It must be by divine appointment that I met Zephy at the SAC this afternoon, looking rather lost and wondering how he was going to make his way to the rugby match. Since Tim has abandoned me, stricken by an illness that comes once every rugby final, I thought it would be a good idea to help Zephy out.
So it came to pass that Zephy and I set out on our journey to the rugby match. On our way, we stopped by the neighbourhood clinic to listen to the doctor tell me what I already knew about my sickness. For that earth-shattering advice, I parted with S$38.00 after a 5 minute consultation. Now, not only am I sick, I am also poorer.
Not convinced that western medicine would do the job, or perhaps not satisfied with poorer until I get to poorest, I purchased from a wily old woman 3 packets of herbal remedies. It seems to me, that everytime I buy herbs from her, the prices keep going up. It is really hard to distinguish genuine concern from crass profiteering. But what do I know? 2000 years of ancient chinese wisdom cant be wrong, can it?
All this while Zephy has faithfully been by my side. I got to know him a little better and we celebrated our newfound friendship by shopping at the nearest NTUC. I bought potato chips for my beloved scouts to while away the hours. Too bad the healthy-looking David Chan would not partake of this sumptuous offering, as he was officially sick with MC.
I met Eric and gang at the game, confiscated a Warcraft manual and had potato chip fellowship with the scouts. Some idiotic Saints were seen trying to pick a fight with a few of our boys. I would have stepped in between them. Quite confident I could fend them off, with two sessions of Aikido lessons under my belt. Maybe not, but what the heck. The fight didnt materialise. So I would never know.
I love being a teacher. Life doesnt get any better than this.
