Just in case you think my blog is dead, well then I have just proven you wrong. I have done a lot of things since my last blog, so I can safely say i have a lot of things to say.
Let me tell you that I am becoming really good at this haircutting business. My prominent clients include potential prominent people from across South East Asia who happen to be living where I am right now. I am also proud to add a certain Mr Ding into my list of customers. So far nobody has complained so it must be good then.
Quite recently I was showing off my prospective final abode to a very captive audience. Too bad it was late at night and the columbarium wasnt well lit at that sort of hour. We should have come at more decent hours I guess. I am seriously thinking of having lunch there soon but so far nobody else has shown much interest about coming along.
While I am on the subject of death I am alarmed at how expensive it has become to dispose of one's remains after departure. I am inclined to think that cremation is the best option but decimating dead flesh in cheap plastic and plywood may not be environmentally friendly. But then again there is really not much place left for a decent burial so there isnt much of an option.
Given that GST hike is on the card, I would think that an early-bird special or some loyalty programme could help defray some of the cost associated with the business of dying. Just last month I called up a friend who has a nose for great deals to find out where I can get a great funeral package for myself. I reason that there could be some service akin to time sharing where one puts in some money in return for a complete here-after package.
She swore that I was mad but really I was drop-dead serious. Forgive the pun. Face it, dying is an impending reality which no one can escape from and it would be awefully impolite to saddle anyone else with the sole responsibility of cleaning up after you.
The best deal I have come across is from Casket Fairprice. I guess the Co-op came into this grim business to help stabilise the otherwise escalating price of funeral packages. As Singapore deals with an ageing population, there will be nafarious undertakers who while dishing out well-rehearsed sympathy, really seek to profit from the increasing demand through higher fees. After all, for many of the clients, it is really one-off thing and families are too distraught to haggle over prices. So it is a good thing that our neighbourhood Coop, apart from offering a wide range of groceries to cater to the needs of the living, also offer a value-for-money package that makes dying a very affordable affair.
I wonder whether we get linkpoints for that last purchase too.
